What should you do if you have a gas leak in the house?

Updated: Jan 7, 2023

Should you think that there is a gas leak, the first thing that you should do is go outside to a well-ventilated area and call the trusted and licensed professionals from BJ Plumbing Services SA Pty Ltd.

Here is what we recommend that you do, and don’t do, while you’re waiting for your gas fitter to arrive:

What NOT TO DO if you suspect a gas leak:

· Do not use a fan to try and help ventilate the area

· Do not turn power point switches or light switches on or off

· Do not use a telephone or flashlight in the suspected area

· Do not use a naked flame or any device with an ignition source to look for the gas leak

· Do not smoke

· Do not try and fix the gas leak yourself

· Do not re-enter your property until a qualified gas fitter has given the all clear

What YOU SHOULD DO if you suspect a gas leak:

· Ventilate your property by opening doors and windows

· Stop using all gas and electrical appliances

· Turn off your electricity and gas supply at the meter

· Go outside, well away from the affected area, and wait for your gas fitter to arrive

When it comes to gas – leave it to the experts.
